I'm going to get a lot of hate, but people think that an internet connection is a right when it is not. It is a service and you can express your discontent with the service, but demanding things that are not within your contract is just not right.
I think there should be options, net non-neutrality can be a good thing like making a facebook exclusive usage plan that is dirt cheap compared to a video streaming plan or a net neutral plan.
Also this classification of users would give ISPs the ability to sort and make a better distribution of users in the same bandwidth optimizing it's usage and improving it's quality of service.
It can also be a bad thing without proper regulation, my point is that it shouldn't be a black or white solution, there is a middle ground that is better than the others. Instead of demanding for net neutrality you guys should be demanding your government for consumer protection laws on net classification and bandwidth allocation.

nah youre 99% wrong

we do need consumer protection laws for bandwidth stuff, which would basically clear up most peoples negative views.

charging more for one services bandwidth over another is really bad, it will in the long term lock people down to one service, ran by the companies themselves, and not have the freedom to chose otherwise.

the ISPs under no circumstance would "sort and make a better distribution of users in the same bandwidth optimizing it's usage and improving it's quality of service." ; they would continue to charge ridiculous prices, and once they are allowed to do that, there will be no way to stop them. if the ISPs were on our side and actually did stuff like that right now, no one would be complaining, but we're worried about the future.

this could all be easily avoided by ISPs pretending to be the good guys for 10~ or so years, until everyone is accustomed to paying little $ for a "facebook plan" and then hike up the prices for other "plans" after they've bought out facebook and monopolize it so hard that they own 100% of your information and 100% of the user base.

saying the internet is a "right" is weird to me, because things like water you still pay for, even though its a right, and while the internet could be some kind of secondary "right" using something like the hierarchy of needs, since it is not a necessity to physically live the price should be higher

There can be customer protection laws to avoid that kind of abuse from the providers.

That won't happen if they are not allowed to do so from the start.

also part of me just thinks that "Americans" are just spoiled and scared. You guys have one of the cheapest and fastest and most reliable internet services and yet I see people complaining all the time how the ISPs suck.

Here we have movistar, I have to pay around 300$/month stuck with a bundle of phone, Cable and 30Mbps Internet (which is one of the fastest consumer connections you can get and only some districts of Lima,Peru are able to get it)
Movistar was formerly called Telefonica and we had a saying back when we used ADSL.
Telefonica -> "NoTengoIPparaTiFonica" , it means that even though you were paying for your ADSL connection, it was a frequent thing that the ISP would just time out trying to assign you an IP and you had to wait hours if not days to get your IP and connection. And it was a recurrent problem, once a month or worst case scenario once a week.

laws that prevent abuse of power don't exist in america, its why we have ISPs right now doing things like agreeing to take 50% of the state and another ISP to take the other 50%, and crush down all the small ISPs and then merge giving them 100% control. congress people receive funding by ISP and Cable companies, there is no one to create those consumer protection laws

we aren't spoiled, the rest of the world is just already bowing down and giving up on net neutrality and americans are the only ones saying anything, we don't want to end up like other places where the internet prices are ridiculously high for low speeds, purely because of incompetence and ISPs abusing their power.

other countries are already used to shit speeds and prices, why would it be easier to take something away from us that we already have, for no reason other than greed.

besides, the service isn't reliable, a lot of ISPs throttle connections to youtube or netflix, leaving you paying more for speeds you aren't able to get. they'll say things like "up to 50MBps" and your actual speed will be somewhere around 10MBps, its easy to look at prices of different companies online and compare them, but real world testing matters more. in the future people would like to be able to stream 4K, and video games, and many other things, but the speeds right now don't support that. I dont know anyone who actually gets the speeds that are advertised by ISPs.

we've seen very large migrations to places where there is google fiber, increasing businesses in those towns significantly, if speeds were like that everywhere, businesses would have a lot more opportunities to take advantage of those speeds.

----

if your service is so bad, why don't you do something about it like we are, it would obviously aid us if the entire world stood up and demanded better internet "rights". right now we do look like fools, while places like your country and places like australia say nothing and basically accept a big hard cock into their ass and pay for it.

also I assume your cost of living is cheaper than most places in america.
