I'm not talking about socialist states, but the forms of socialism that countries like Denmark, Sweden, and Finland use. A lot of people seem to dismiss the idea of having any economic equality without regarding its success in other countries...

You have 2 questions here which kind of confused me.

People don't like the idea of socialism, especially in America because how the country is rooted on the basis of freedom. The idea of Socialism deprecates the American dream, which is the brand the founding fathers have established. Practicing socialism limits person's growth and achievements which is horrible for the economy.

If I recall correctly, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland practice capitalism that steals some ideas from socialism. But so does United States, if we practiced pure capitalism, then people can set minimum wage as low as they want. Besides, no one denies these countries' economic success. The only type of people that don't like their type of economy are probably greedy republicans who do not want to pay higher taxes. and maximize profits by keeping minimum wage low. I believe United States will eventually adapt to a better economic profile (examples are Obama trying to raise minimum wage and trying to provide a cheap health insurance service) , but everything takes time and change is slow.

I thought those countries practiced "Democratic Socialism" and whatnot, I'm not entirely sure anymore. The way I see things, it creates more freedoms, not limits them. People are more easily able to start up their own small businesses and whatnot. Whatever it may be, I'd like to once again restate that I'm not talking about pure socialism. I guess what I meant to say is: Why do people hate most aspects of socialism?
Like seriously, any time something comes up like "OMG MORE TAXES" people shit their pants.

The topic actually sprouted from hearing people bash on Obama's attempts at providing more benefits to the poor. Which doesn't really limit anyone's growth, all it does is give opportunities and second chances to those who need it. As an example of how this sort of stuff has been successful in the U.S, there's been quite a bit of success in permanent housing programs for the homeless, something like 80% of the homeless who are providing such services are able to keep their jobs and houses. I'm not sure how accurate/true that is as I heard it on the radio from an interview with a Housing First service provider. But Google results seem to show a lot of success.

I haven't dug into the exact definition of socialism, so I'm using what (my conception of) the ignorant masses know about socialism.

One thing that rubs me the wrong way with socialism is the concept of the richer you are and the bigger percentage of tax you have to pay. I mean, you work -> you get paid and if you work harder you should be rewarded more. Yet with socialism, the harder you work, the more THE OTHERS are rewarded.

I would understand that you'd pay a fixed fee to the state, the way you pay a house rent, since they are providing various services that make our lives easier.
I could understand that a fixed percentage of your income went to the state, though I'm not sure it's really justified...
But I don't understand that the higher your income the bigger the share given to the state. There are countries where past a given income threshold 75% your income goes away in taxes.
...And yes, I'm aware that modern capitalists also use this bigger income<->bigger percentage system, but it's just worse with socialist governments... At least in my country.

Each time I'm reminded that flaw, I despise socialism and stop thinking further.

Because people should be awarded for their contribution to community. In socialism there are people that hold whole country on their feet and the ones who are just sitting at home masturbating.

The countries I listed have lower tax rates though...

@Up2Admin: My problem is not with country X taxing less than country Y, each country being unique they don't need the same amount of money to operate so it's normal that they have different tax rates.
My problem is with how they calculate their taxes: I find it illogical that the more you work, the less you are rewarded (in %).

EDIT: if your reply was about my "past a given income threshold 75% [of] your income goes away in taxes" (and not the whole post), well, I was using this sentence as a means of saying "Some countries push it way too far", but it's not the main issue.
