Cheat Engine

I've found the values of lives and gold in a game, and I was able to change them. So I decided to save it as a cheat table so I wouldn't have to keep finding them, but now the values read as ??, and I can't change it.

I found the gold value again to make sure it was still the same number, it is.

What gives?

If this is single player, the game is using DMA or possibly code shifting.
as masterkert3 said you need the pointer.

I looked for a pointer tutorial but couldn't find one. Is one of the steps in the CE Tutorial about pointers? If so, which step is it?

I made a tutorial there, actually I made the whole site. You can't do pointers in Flash games.

Your tutorial isn't very clear about which number it is in the second picture. And is the steps to getting a pointer different if the Value type is Double? (Because thats what the Gold value is stored as)
