Hello.
I'm in the process of learing cheat engine, and it's usage.
I am currently trying to find the base address of HP in a game, (The game in question is Killing Floor).
So I find the dynamic adress just fine, 3 of them. One which I believe just writes to the HUD number, since freezing it does nothing, one which seems to show the last HP before you took damage, and one which I can edit and freeze for unlimited health.
Then I find out what writes to it. One is for every hit I take, whether it's from a zombie or fall damage is not taken in concideration, the other is when I heal. The healing one, btw, shows 1 number for each health healed, the damage just shows a "Hit" not how much HP you lost.
Now, this is where my confusion begins. When I click the more info tab, the address at ebx (Which is marked in red and inside [ ] tells me it's the same address that the dynamic value had. When I've been following tutorials for this, they've always had different addresses. This makes me believe I'm just running in circles, but I dunno, maybe it's correct?
So I do a HEX search for that adress, and 5 addresses pop up, 2 of which are supposed to be static. For the sake of this question I added them all to my addresses, but as I got into the game and took some damage, the three non static values changed to other numbers, where as the static ones kept the same (Current Health) value.
However, if I restart the game, the "Static" addresses change value, sometimes they get assigned another value, sometimes they just go ??
I dunno if I'm just making a fool out of myself by saying this next part, but if I try to find out what writes/accesses the static addresses the game crashes.
So, I'm very confused about this right now. What does this mean?
If the values that are supposed to be static change? How do I find the real static addresses? Does the part where the ebx address is the same as the dynamic values address have anything to do with it?
I have pictures prepared if it would be of any help that I emailed them or whatever.
Thanks in advance
Jompa

Hmm, so the fact that locking/changing the dynamic value works (As in you can be unvulnerable until you close the game) acutally tells me nothing?
Could it be like a float value or something, even though I found this value as a 4 byte value?

You've found the right address for health but the wrong pointer base (it's just a coincidence if that static address has a value that sometimes can be used for your health pointer).
Simplest way to find a stable pointer to your health is to use the pointerscanner: find health address, right click on it->pointerscanner. When in doubt keep the default settings.
