It's finally time I upgrade my pc again, after about 6years... And I'm getting an upgrade kit first, gpu later. Unfortunately my budget isn't very high, around 300eu, so no i7 Sad
I've come up with 2 upgrade kits that look interesting. One of them has the i5-3470 and the other an i5-4430. According to benchmarks they're not that different, performance-wise. The mobo and ram in the upgrade kits is similar.
What would CEF advise me to get?

Core i5 4430 is based on Haswell and it uses the new 1150 socket.

Go AMD. Not only is mantle going to take over, consoles now use AMD cpu. Console ports will be AMD optimized on pc.

And what are the benefits of Haswell?

Edit: And how's the AMD A10-5800K as an AMD replacement? Would save me 50eu, which I could use for an SSD

The APU don't work nearly as well as CPU + GPU.

In English, perhaps? Razz

Isn't APU basically a GPU combined with CPU? AMD laptops have it, it's not worth it in a PC

It depends on the situation. For light gaming and a media PC, its very worth it. For heavy gaming its gonna be better for a GPU+CPU.

Ah, I've never seen an APU in a computer, so my bad for the assumption. I only know about APU cause of laptops.o

Well the only reason you need to save space is if you're building a laptop or tablet, that's why you only see APUs in those.
It's the same as a mobile version of a GPU model, like GTX 670m or whatever, it's not as powerful as the regular 670 but is smaller and runs cooler.
APU is the same idea, it's a consolidated compromise.

okay well, I don't need a gpu+cpu, since I already got a decent enough gpu, and planning to upgrade it soonish.
So out of those 3 processors I mentioned, what's my best choice?
Or if you will, what other processor/mobo would you recommend, in the same price range
