I listen to a 20GB lossless recording of Hitler whistling in the shower, the origin of its recording is said to be the intercom system was tampered with in an attempt to listen in on Hitler but instead projected the sounds from inside his home into the intercom receiver. It was recorded by a Jewish spy, who entered the Nazi party under an alias, but once he was caught, the recorded tape of the whistling was taken from him and sat in a bunker full of other recovered Jewish media that was banned in Germany at the time until it was recovered by Russian troops in 1946. The tape, recorded on a large reel, was on a Magnetophon, common in Germany at the time. After the items were recovered they were returned to whom possible, but the rest were auctioned off. A man with the initials "A. W." bought the Magnetohpon with the tape of the whistling still inside, among other things he bought at the auction like Antiques. He sat on the tape for another 5 or 6 years, he stored it in his display cabinets, until he passed away in which the item was passed down to his son. His son took it to a museum to try and sell it, but they refused saying that there was no proof of its authenticity. His son had no use for the tape but still kept it because it reminded it of his father, who would sit and admire it inside of its display case.

In 1993 the grandson of the original buyer of the tape, the son of the current holder, was looking through his father old things and saw the tape, wondering what it was he played it, but thinking it may degrade or ruin the tape, he recorded the sound from his speakers into his cassette recorder. Once the recording was on his cassette recorder, he recorded it again this time onto his PC, further lowering the sound quality. He then circulated the file on various BBS and chatted with others trying to find the origin, he uploaded the file titled simply as 'Unknown Whistle". Once I downloaded this file, which was extremely small in size and had such terrible quality, I noticed that the whistle was Die Walküre, composed by Richard Wagner, being the history buff I am I knew that this was Hitlers favorite composer at the time of WW 1 & 2. I contacted the grandson, the uploader of the file, to see if he knew the origin of the tape, he replied: "I asked my father, he only knows that my grandfather won it at an auction in the 1940's". This is it, I knew this could be something big, I continued talking with the grandson, whos name is Tommy, as I later found out. I asked if he could send me the recorded cassette tape in hopes that the quality would be higher, and that I might know of its origin. He agreed, and I payed $20 for the cassette.

Once I received the tape I put it in my Sony TC-K909ES, a very high end Cassette Deck at the time, and played it, I was correct, the song being whistled was the Die Walküre, specifically the Ride of the Valkyries section. Based on everything I knew, I could reliably assume that this whistling was coming from Hitler himself. The cassette recording was poor quality, not as bad the file I downloaded online from Tommy, but still not perfect. I continued talking with Tommy in hope I could get the original reel of tape, he denied sending it to me, but I was able to get him to agree to meet with me. I packed up my expensive recording equipment in order to prepare my own high quality record of this tape reel. I flew to Colarado where Tommy was currently staying, after his father moved there in the 1980s because of the upcoming fall of Russia, where Tommys family is from. When I finally arrived, I met Tommy at the agreed Hotel we would meet at. After inspecting the tape, I began to take out my high quality recording equipment. I slowly took the tape off of its original player, the Magnetophon, and sat it on my current player used specifically for restoration and back up of old tape. I recorded the tape onto my PC, completely lossless, as to preserve as much of the original sound as I could. Once it was finished the file was 20GB. I gave Tommy the file on a CD, the file compressed, but still listenable, and left back to my home. Still to this day I play that file, and know that I'm listening to history, something virtually no one else has.
