This code | Code: | "MSVCR100.dll"+1FC8:
mov [edi+ecx*4-0C],eax
mov eax,[esi+ecx*4-08] |
is not used for your address only. when you are changing EAX there, many other addresses change too and cause game crash. please complete the tutorial first to learn many useful points plus answer to your question.

There are a lot of examples, the tutorial itself is some examples too.
About the timer, if you are sure it is your main address-I mean when you add
it in address list it is possible to freeze or change it- first search for a pointer
using pointer scanner and when injecting code I think assembly instructions
like add,sub,inc,dec,fadd,fsub,...
cause less game crashes when changed. but first make sure editing the value
of the address you have found changes the remaining time of timer.

Search for another variable, and when changing this other variable has an effect ingame, then start making code changes. In the worst case scenario, try only using unknown initial value/changed/unchanged scan options to locate the "true" timer variable.
Other hints:
-In the code finder, if the address of the opcode you want to hack looks like 7xxxxxxx or greater and you're hacking a 32bit game, then don't touch that bit of code. In 90% cases you're trying to modify system code. I mean stuff that comes from X:\windows\syswow64 or X:\windows\system32, and that should crash your game (or worse) if modified .
-Never touch MSVCR100.dll, that's a system dll.
