| I'm just happy to have something to do really I'm always so bored. I have the choice of joining their union, but the hiring person said they couldn't tell me about it. Anyone know about unions? I start tomorrow I will need to restock fruits and veggies and whatever else lol I don't know why the job just sounds funny.

Unions were created to protect workers from unscrupulous business owners that had deplorable operations that were a detriment to the people that worked there and/or worked as slave drivers such as the coal companies that paid workers with script only redeemable at the company store. They are basically a power arm of common trade workers stating in the event of a strike they'll all join the strike. Many people don't like them because they have fees you are required to pay and, like insurance, their use isn't required very often.

I don't want to be paying like my whole first paycheck toward dues I hear its like $200 to join then like seven out of each check or so. Anyway I'm already not going to be making much though, and from what I understand the union contract guarantees raises every predetermined number of hours. I'm not sure if it would ever be worth it a friend of mine says it also makes it hard for them to fire you or something? I don't know I haven't even started yet, ill take a look at the contract, but something tells me I'm going to miss pertinent information if it is many pages.

| They need evidence and documented reasons for firing, so they just can't do it on a whim. Ofcourse that only really matters if you'd fight the firing. If you like, post the contract and I'll take a look.

| Yeah fuck a union. I just simply can't afford to pay the dues. I'm only getting paid 7.50... I'm going to start looking for a better job ASAP
