MoBo: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00783637

CPU that I currently have installed: http://ark.intel.com/products/27248/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E6300-2M-Cache-1_86-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB

CPU that I want to install: http://ark.intel.com/products/30784/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E6750-4M-Cache-2_66-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB

My friend bought me the e6750 CPU for my birthday but I'm not quite sure if it will work correctly with the motherboard that I currently have.

I've never really replaced a CPU before so I don't really know what to expect. Would there be any downsides to installing this? Is there anything else I need to do before installing it?

I don't really want to break anything and I need to buy thermal paste if I am going to install it (which I would like to avoid if this won't work.)

Any help is appreciated.

The bus speed doesn't work like that. If it says the CPU is supported it will run regardless.

Do I need to update the BIOS or anything? I'm new to this kind of thing.
I just want to make sure everything will work correctly before I go out to buy the thermal paste and install it.

EDIT
I noticed that the chipset I have says it only supports FSB 1066mhz, does that mean it won't work if I install the E6750 CPU?

Your best bet is E6700. And don't forget to call HP support.
