I recently hacked the Windows game Ahriman's Prophecy using cheatengine
to find out what writes to the address the stores the gold.
Then I replaced that with NOP in the real EXE with XVI32 by replacing the
three bytes with 90 90 90 of course.
So I was so happy. When I buy things I don't lose money! Speeds up the game quite a bit!
Right now I'm using ubuntu Linux and hope to do something similar with
Linux games, but I can't find anything like cheatengine that runs on Linux!
Know of any good tools? _________________

You were of no help. I found software that lets me modify values in RAM.
I used it to max out my score and lives in Supertux.
I'll have to find help elsewhere I guess for reverse engineering. _________________
