This is my second hitachi harddisk in 3 months that has died on me. Exactly the same symptons, begin and end of the disk unreadable and loves to lock up the whole system

anyone else having the same problem with hitachi harddisks or is it just my luck ?

Seems to be a consistent thing with the drive for some. 2-3 month lifespan seems to be what almost all the 1 egg vote comments say.

yeah, hitachi deathstar does seem an appropriate name for these.
Main reason I bought these was because of the good performance and size, but I guess I'll go for a different brand next time

Maccies will have a fit as this was the drive that contained the vmware install with the mac version and source. Guess it's time to see how many sectors I can rescue (Hmm, since I haven't touched the mac version in 3 months, it can be it's still on the temporary rescuedisk of the previous restore)
