|
|
Hey, I recently got and installed Windows 7 home premium on my computer. I use to have Windows Vista home premium.
My monitor won't power off. I don't know why. I could turn it off perfectly when I was in Windows Vista. I like to lock my computer and turn off my monitor, but I can't. It seems that if I press the sleep button on my keyboard, I am able to turn it off with ease. I think it's Windows 7. Do I need to install a driver or something?
Note: I tried Google. It didn't help.

so you press the monitor button and it stays on? Sounds like the button is fucked up.

It's not. I make it go to sleep with the sleep button. Then it turns off easily. When it's not in sleep mode, it's impossible to turn off the monitor.

I don't really understand what you're saying.
Could you clarify the below:
Is your computer a desktop or laptop computer?
Does it display anything on the monitor when you shut it down?
Does the monitor go into a sleep mode (e.g. the screen goes blank and the light colour changes) [desktop]?

Do you want it to turn off as in after inactivity? If so then do this:
1. Open Control Panel.
2. Choose 'Power Options'. (Change view to Small Icons if you don't see it.)
3. On the left, click 'Choose when to turn off the display'.
4. Edit the options to your desire, and save.

I'm running on an HP Pavillion a1710n(Desktop). When I shut down the computer, I am able to press the power button and the monitor will power off. I am on windows 7 normally and whenever I lock my computer, I press the monitor's power button and it won't turn off. I put it in sleep mode and it turns off easily.

Monitor should turn on or off independently of the computer. Sounds like you have a bad On/Off button on your monitor. How old is this monitor?
