|
|
Hello, my house was recently broken into and some electronics were stolen. My family did not have an alarm system installed before this happened, so I'm here asking for your guys' advice on purchasing one. I have had some people recommend me an alarm system under the brand name "ADT". I have read online reviews about ADT and most of them were negative... So, I'm not really sure what to do... Thanks!

You should get two systems, the alarm and a surveillance system.
The surveillance system lets you hook up security cameras and some even allow remote viewing so if your on vacation, you can always check on your house.

Also, isn't there apps on IOS and Android market where you can watch them 24/7?

Some system are tied to their own application, but most will let you watch
it over a web browser.

Alarm systems are fairly pricey and will not always deter or even do anything. The fellow I work for has an alarm and in one case his alarm went off, at the time I lived a 25 minute drive from his house, as soon as I was called by the monitoring company I left my house, 20 minutes later I pulled up to his house and the cops pulled up literally as soon as I did. Moral is, had this been a real break in and not a false alarm, he could have lost several thousands of dollars worth of electronics and jewelry before the first person even showed up.
Get a dog, much cheaper and shown to be just as effective at deterring burglars. Though if someone really wants in they will get in no matter what.

I recommend border collies, schnauzers, Australian shepards, rottweilers, doberman pinchers, or german shepards if you want a ferocious guard dog.

Alarm hardware may vary but typically system to system it's the same. It really depends on your region and what companies are in your area.
Cost can fall anywhere from $12 mo - $40 mo, and that doesn't include installation. A good company will give you so many "false alarms", by that I mean that in a billing cycle your system can give a false alarm signal and there will be no charge to you for it, exceed this number however and it can get quite expensive. You will also have installation of a system as an added expense and I know for a fact when a component goes out here at work, same gear as for residential it's about $200 - $300 for the part replacement labor and service call included in that.
In the long run dogs are cheaper, a little more maintenance but will most likely do as much to deter as an alarm system would.

What's with everyone wanting to get security systems these days? You guys must have monster rigs.
