We got the lamp replaced because it blew up but now it's having some problems. When you turn on the TV the display is black or very dark and the TV restarts itself several times before displaying properly.

If you want help, then you would have to tell us if it is a tubular TV, or LCD, or Plasma. You also need to tell us the brand, and possibly the model number.

Obviously an LCD as there is no lamp in a CRT or plasma display.

LCD lamps don't blow up... they get dim and eventually completely burn out.

If the lamp blew up, obviously there was something wrong with the wiring/electronics. Additionally, if the TV is so old that the lamp went out, it's probably time for a newer TV.

LCD uses a fluorescent light which does not use a capacitor, it uses a ballast, which do go out over time (sometimes sooner than the blub itself). It sounds like your ballast is shot, which would explain the exploding bulb.

What I don't know is if it's even possible to replace the ballast yourself. The best thing you can do is call the manufacturer's customer service a few times and see what they can do.
