im building a giant structure around my general area and it will need to be bright so nothing spawns
so do i just spam torches everywhere or lava or waht

Except that mining obsidian takes fucking forever. It's literally a hundred times easier to use molds for obsidian than to mine and place it.

Three and a half minutes to mine that much obsidian, and the entire time you're doing nothing but holding down your mouse staring at the obsidian. It probably would take a minute to make a mold of the portal and do it that way.

when i play minecraft i usually watch video anyways so all my attention isnt on the game. really 3 minutes isnt much, all i do in the game is mine shit , i dont really build anything, i just play to keep myself busy for a bit, so it doesnt matter how monotonous what im doing is
im not saying your tip is bad, its very helpful for someone who does want to save time, but i dont really need it nor care about how long it takes
