I get pissed off when people ask me to donate to charity or to not waste my money on superficial junk when other people are in more need of it. Like seriously, fuck off. I lend out a few bucks to the people around me when they really need it, but there should be no reason for anyone to be fully dependent on charity money. Another thing, why is it good to help the needy? Unless they play some role in your life where if they were absent, you'd lose something too, I see no reason to care for them. Its harsh for me to say this, but if you have no value in my life, I don't see why I should dedicate my resources to you.
Oddly enough however, I sometimes do give twenty bucks to the occasional homeless guy. I don't know why, but for them I do have a soft side and a tendency to help them out.
I respect people who actually do give it all away to pursue a goal for the sake of others though. People who dedicate their lives to raising awareness of unethical practices around the world deserve a medal. However, when they start rubbing their "altruism" in other people's faces as an excuse for others to see them as good humans, I immediately lose any respect for them. To act like you care simply because you love the attention and the spotlight is just downright sad. _________________

Does true altruism even exist? Can man act of no selfishness, purely with the intent of helping another in mind? |

Næstekærlighed? In English there is no other word for it than 'charity' as in the virtue. _________________
