What are your thoughts on the processors being released within the next month? Worth getting vs the current i7's?
I declare this discussion to commence!

Lol, next month. We're looking at 2-3 months before sandy bridge is released. They're kidding themselves if they think they're releasing next month.

So the most expensive of the bunch running at 3.4GHz w/Turbo to 3.8GHz has 8 threads and a unlock multiplier coming next month is a shitty proc?

We'll hear more about it when CES arrives.

The i7 2600 selling for 300 bucks is a joke. It's going to hang onto that price for about a week, and then it's going to rise about 150 dollars.

Also you can't "overclock" the FSB anymore as it fucks up the PCIE lanes and shit.

I was reading about that, you have to lock the pci frequencies in place or someshit. That's why amateur overclockers are always fucking up their video cards.

99% of people who overclock have no need to overclock anyways

erm, you've had to lock the PCI-E / PCI frequency for a million years, it's nothing new.

they moved something (the southbridge functionality?) on die off the top of my head which i guess means one less clock generator to worry about.

Which in turns makes the FSB in control of usb and audio which will fuck up after upping the base clock.

obviously, but it's a problem that has always existed. with no separate clock generator, there's no way to solve it.

you had to set the pci-e frequency to 101 from 100 on older boards as a workout for the scaling.

sandy bridge seems to have such enormous bandwidth anyway that fsb benefit is probably fairly minimal over raw clock speed.
