I don't think you're right..
The triangles are exactly the same size..
Now imagine every square in the first picture is red, and they get switched with each other, how the heck can you get one square that isn't filled with red? Neutral

The squares arent the same size, they are decreasing in height. Use a ruler to confirm Wink

Just because it's the same size, doesn't mean it fits together the same way if you switch pieces around...

The triangle is 5*13 = 65 / 2 = 32,5 squares.
Please explain me how you can fill a space, that requires 32,5 squares, with just 31,5 squares? I seriously don't know how that would be possible and no, I'm not being sarcastic.

they look like they are the same shape, but they actually are not... they aren't even triangles.

not perfect, but this is basically the trick. the finer the grid the harder it becomes to visually spot the difference in angle.

It's true, they are the same sizes same shape. You can not compare slope of the two as one will be different, but if you consider the individual components you will see that they still line up. SF is correct, just because they are the same sizes and shape doesn't mean they can be assembled in any order and maintain their volume.

If you went into photoshop and layed out a grid and created the image yourself you would see that the whole appears in your own as well. It's not an optical illusion either, it's called displacement.

they are NOT the same shape, nor are they triangles despite their appearance. a triangle has 3 sides, these figures don't, not even the top one with everything filled.

slovach is right, the two triangles do not have the same proportions.

Proof that both images are the same with the same area. The paradox is not real, at first glance something seems amiss, but on closer inspection both images cover the same area.

In the OP posted image don't consider the whole triangle. Consider the individual components instead. You will see that both red triangles cover the same surface area. As does the green triangles and the green bricks, and the yellow. The rearrangement gives the illusion that one should be larger.

If you don't believe me graph out the pieces in photoshop, print them, cut them out then arrange them in both ways, see for yourself.

the big red triangle and the other green one can be proven different by finding their angles

there is a 1.24 degree difference between them, so the top is not 1 surface like it seems to be. (hopefully my math is right)

Agreed the slope of those is visibly different. Print out the image and cut the first one, you can make both shapes from that one. The 2nd arrangement will still have the hole.
