|
|
I need the password for my wireless router. It is provided by the totally inadequate company of Coffey, and I need to change some things on my router, but they won't give me the password. (It's not really that they won't, it's just the IT "experts" are always giving me the WPA key, not the web client thing).
I have physical access to the router.
The model is WRT120N (Linksys by Cisco).

But, the internet seems to require some username and password, I think.
Some kind of authentication that happens between the router and the ISP, to connect the internet.
Will this get lost? I don't have the username and password.

Been there, done that.
Also tried many combinations of admin/password/cisco/linksys/WRT120N

By chance did you try admin as login and Coffey as pass?
You could do as Saifallofjmr suggested, which if you know the configurations I would agree you should do, it's the easiest and fastest method.

According to Cisco if you correctly held the reset button for like 30 seconds while on (lights should start blinking) and powercycle for another 30 seconds, it should reset. Then go back to a browser and go to 192.168.1.1 , then typed admin for username and password it would work.
atleast my wrt610n and e3000 work that way

elaborate on this
Because i have no issue going in resetting my router, exchanging routers, adding access points.
I've never seen anything where it would require username+password to get onto the internet except for places like hotels (and the option I have with the e3000 , valet... etc where i can make it like a guest account)

PPPoE?
I am not sure about this, but I will explain why I think it has a function like this:
My setup is like this: RJ45 like cable comes in the wall, into a little black box, which is plugged into the power, then an RJ45 comes out of that.
This cable then goes to a 10/100/1000 D-Link ethernet switch.
Two more cables come out of the switch, one goes back into the wall (it then heads over to the next townhouse), the other goes into the Cisco WRT120N router.
When I try to put my Netgear router where the Cisco one is, then it shows no active internet connection.
Understand?

You shoulda mentioned the PPPoE in the first place. Then no absolutely should you not reset your router. If that is the case then your ISP will fully manage the router.

The internet comes into our house through an ethernet cable, not a phone line.

For Zelda_454 the internet is like this. His house, there may be 5 or 6 houses on his block on the same ethernet line, read cat-5 not coaxial. So his routes between houses, users are assigned IP's and passwords. The passwords may not be handed out to the users to reduce network conflicts of users with DHCP, MAC and other IP settings.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-to-Point_Protocol_over_Ethernet
Since OP is in PNG this could explain why they have to use PPPoE, as it's seldom seen in most networks.
