Truecrypt is as complex as you want it to be. you can use AES, Serpent, Twofish, or a combination thereof. You can also create a file container, instead of having to encrypt an entire partition or drive.

You do not need a keyfile. You are not obligated to use one for encryption. You can just use as easily use a password only.
