So I've been planning on building a desktop personal server-like system that is also capable of running recent games at a decent frame rate. Trolling around the computer shops I've been able to put together a build for around $900 CAD. Just checking if my build is worth the money or not and if improvements can be made. Budget is around $1000 CAD.

Honestly, this is good. I have seen canadian prices on sites, and some of this is cheaper than what I saw. Like the 1055 was 300 on tigerdirect.ca. Ram is pretty cheap too.

GTX 460 1GB version, runs about up to 90% on par with a 5850 (then you can overclock the card insanely high like 830+mhz core and 2000Mhz memory.) For cheaper, cooler temps, less power usage.

Performance increase at lower costs always pleases me. Most people comment that an OC'd 460 1GB would perform better than an OC'd 5850, is that true or not? Also, how would the 768MB version compare to the 1GB version when similarly overclocked?

I'm also planning on SLI/CrossFire in the future, also seeing how SLI 460 outperforms two 5850 crossed. However in consideration of thermals and power consumption, should I get a PSU with higher wattage in the future, especially with two OC'd 460?

Its very true, but then I'm sure OCing a 5850 would perform better too.

This msi 5850 not only has a badass cooler already, its made to easily OC with msi after burner. Its only 1 dollar more than the sapphire.

So you see a card that performs well at the same card you are going to buy at CHEAPER. You are retarded and stupid if you think that a 5850 is still a better choice.

I'd hate to say it, but Hero is correct. Technically I was asking for comparisons of both cards overclocked to their max (it would be silly to assume an equal overclock).

Two 460's take less than 500 watts so a 600 watt power supply would be fine, also two 460's go past a 480.

Seems like a good build to me.

Personally, I'd buy 6GB of RAM instead of 4GB though. 4GB was more than enough 3 years ago, but 6GB gives cushion for quite some more time.
