My motherboard is MSI X58 PRO-E (MS-7522). My power supply is GW 900W (900SEL).
I currently have a Palit GTS250 1GB. I want something more powerful.
Here are my options:
Purchase another GTS250 and put them in dual SLI (cost: $144AU)
Purchase 2 more GTS250's and put them in triple SLI (cost:$288AU)
Purchase a Palit GTX470 1280MB and install (cost: $390AU)
And some last questions:
If I get more GTS250's, do they have to be Palit?
They will stack pretty tight, should I install extra cooling? How will they go under full load?
Will a 900W power supply suffice?
Does the MSI 7522 support SLI? Does it support the GTX470?
What more is needed for SLI?
What is more bang for my buck?

You're better off getting a 5850 or 5870. GTX470 isn't exactly a card to be recommended and Nvidia has plans to release the 475 as a replacement. Out of your choices though, unless you absolutely need DX11 I'd advise tri-SLI GTS250. I still recommend ATI for better price/performance ratio though.
-No, they don't have to be the same brand to CrossFire or SLI
-As long as the cards don't go over 90c they should be fine.
-900w is plenty
-Yes and yes. As long as the MoBo has enough PCI-E slots and sufficient space to fit dual-slot cards, you'll be fine.
-You might need more power connectors (I think some will be included with the cards though)
-IMO, 5850 is better in terms of price/performance. But if you really must stick to Nvidia, get the GTX460

OK. Well, I will be buying this card in 1-2 months. So if the 475 is coming out soon, I will wait. I only really like Nvidia.

This may sound stupid to you if you are a fanboy. But ATI really smacks NVidia in terms price/performance.
The new 475 will be around 400 dollars and perform almost as good as the 480.
Now. The 480 performs 7% better than the 5870 for 20% more electricity and 40% more heat. Or was it vice versa. Anyways. The 5870 also costs around 400 bucks and it runs much more stable, it uses less electricity and it's cooler. I don't get your fanboyism.

Its no fanboy. At this point, nvidia has out 2 cards. 460 is great, but not if you can afford a 5870. 480 is good, but from how I hear it, it gets hot as hell. It also uses a hell of a lot of power according to http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-480,2585-15.html its using good 100w more than a 5870, and the performance isn't substantially better.

Current Nvidia cards are not worth their value as they're too expensive for that slight advantage in performance. Also like others have mentioned, they run hot and are power hungry.
AMD cards currently are the best bang for their buck.
And to show there is no bias in this post...
If your on a budget, the GTX460 will be your best pick.

Palit GTX460 is 768MB GDDR5 RAM and costs $250. Palit GTX 470 is 1280MB GDDR5 RAM and costs $370.
I think I might get one 470 now, because I can afford it. Then get another one when need arises. I will give my GTS250 to my good friend, and call it a day.
Yes, I have made up my mind. The 470 suits by budget perfectly, and will be a big boost up from my GTS250. Now my question is, Palit VS. Gigabyte.
Palit GTX470, $390
Gigabyte GTX470, $410
Those are my two options.

Heck I bet you're running a 32bit operating system with 4gigs of ram and then you want to install a 1280MB VRAM vidya card.

I just read it had DX11. So HD5850 is much better than GTX470?
I have never owned an ATI card, how do they differ from Nvidia cards? Can I still do all the same stuff? I though I read somewhere the new drivers blow, which version is best?

Through my years of computing, I've own both ATi cards as well as Nvidia's.
Both satisfied my needs during that time and it was the best bang for the buck.
The HD5850 runs cool and has a better value. GTX 470 goes against the HD5850 and yet it cost $100 more.
