A really, really hard action game. Like IWBTG hard. In fact, just imagine IWBTG, that'll work. Okay, imagine it with lives. And to get more lives, you have to pay one cent. Keep half of all the money, put the other half as a prize fund. When someone wins, they get half the current prize fund.

Thoughts?

It'd be a gamble. If 100 people each buy 100 lives for 1 dollar, and one wins, they get 25 bucks. (maybe half is too much to keep. 10%? Then they'd get 90 bucks.)
Knowing this, they bet dollars against their skills. And it's a VIDEO GAME and people do done good at these VIDEO GAME things, so they'd pay 'cause soon they'll be rolling in da monies.
