left is unsmoothed which means that I manually edited all that thing. and the one on the right is the smoothed one.

Ok ok I'll look into it. though because of poly count it will take a while and I dont promise it will look as good as this one.

what's the tri count right now?

just clean up the screws and it's already fine. for the first person model, the budget is undoubtedly well into the thousands.

the count on the base mesh, not the meshsmoothed one

36k polys without the screws

I'll make another one after checking the TF2 butterfly knife mesh

I can decrease the poly count by a lot using bump maps

the on in TF2 uses 3k polys

I just checked and its pretty well made ... I dont see any reason to replace it

On the animation, the hand moves kind of slowly, and then it looks like the knife is flicking out and into his hand by itself. I think you should speed up the animation at the beginning.
