So, I had to set my clocks to minimum for this shit not to happen,
whenever I'm playing(sometimes when idle) with clocks above minimum, I get black screen, and 2 LEDs are lit on the card.
I got a 500w PSU something, maybe that's the problem? I have no idea.
The temps don't go over 100C(and I hardly think they go over 70 when I'm idling) so the temp shouldn't be the problem.

Is it a black screen from boot, or can you get into the BIOS? If you can get in the BIOS, check the system status page for temperatures and other info.
Check that the power cables are plugged into the card properly, and that the card is correctly seated in the PCI-E slot.
Also, check your card's manual. There's usually some way of detecting what the fault is based on the state of the LEDs.

| Code: |
D1601 - Over temp protection enabled
D1602 - EXT 12V fault |
Both of them are lit.
Also when it happens(not from boot) the screen goes black, sound fucks up(and eventually dies out) and the PC stops responding.
The cables are plugged in correctly, and the card is correctly seated.

You need a bigger PSU, and there's a good chance your card is overheating too. You shouldn't get more than 50C for idle, 70C is pretty high, 100C is dangerously high.
If you're on a 500W, I'd say go for a 750W or higher. That gives you a good margin for any future updates.

so i looked it up, the 4850 uses a max of 110W.
So go to http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp and plug in the power usages of your computer. Find the total, and then multiply that number by 1.1 ~ 1.2 . That is the power supply strength you should get (get something bigger than that, but not by much)
You multiply by 1.1 ~ 1.2 because your power supply should never be working at full value (they arnt designed to do that for prolonged use. Also they have lower efficiency at higher power output, so they heat up faster and get damaged)
btw I have teh 4850 too and i had ur problem. my computer ususally crashed after about 30 mins of playing crysis. I calculated my power usage to be 493 watts with that site, which was not enough because i had a cheap 520 watt power supply. I ignred it for about 3 months until it started smeelling funny (it smells like burnt plastic) and then one day it exploded (the capacitor blew, and it smelled funny). i was hella lucky the capiacitor blew because sometimes it doesnt and the whole motherboard gets fried. so then I went out and got a 580watt one for $45 and now it works fine
tldr; i had ur problem, buy a better power supply
also, where did you buy your computer?

I've the same cards (two of them in crossfire) and ever since upgrading to Windows 7 and updating my drivers (10.3) I've had the exact same issue. Manually controlling the fans seems to help (or should I say, delay the inevitable), but I strongly suspect this to be a driver issue, as this wasn't a problem until recently. Power isn't an issue - I know I've got more than enough.
Also, do note that these cards are naturally very hot. 70-80 idle up to ~90 under load is apparently normal operating conditions (according to AMD). I have my fans running at 65% constantly, and they sound like a leaf blowers but run much cooler (<50 idle).

| Yes. Mine runs 36c idle. Set your fan speed to manual and set it to like 60%. Its still very silent, at least mine is. My gfx card doesnt even come close to 60c after heavier gaming.

I need ~500 watts :\ So yeah, I need a new PSU, how about this:
Corsair PSU 650W 12CM ATX12V2.2 80+ [CMPSU-650TXEU] , 113USD |
unless you plan to crossfiring or have a massive upgrade ( 20hard drives, Dual i7s) 650W is overkill for a 4850, maybe 4850 crossfire + 1 physX card, but just for single 4850 is way overkill

If you're feeling ballsy you can probably drop your temp a couple degrees easily by taking the heatsink off and reapplying paste. use ceramique, not artic silver.
I really wouldn't worry too much, the 4850's (especially the single slot ones) get hot as shit.
Are you losing signal to the monitor when your screen blacks out? I had a problem long ago and it turned out to be the power supply getting ready to eat shit. it was more than capable of running the card.
