A bit faster but it doesn't increase internet speed.
Basically, when you type Google.com in your browser, you connect to a DNS Server, which says Google.com = XXXXXX IP Adress.
It sends you back that IP Adress and your browser connects to that IP and receives the page.
The only thing changing your DNS will do is lower the time before the page starts loading, not how fast internet is.

no.
and ping times to whatever dns you're using are largely meaningless in comparison to how well said resolver can provide cache hits.

yes and no, it depends on what you count as speed.
A different dns might be faster in looking up a domain which makes changing websites faster, but downloading etc... doesn't make much different. Unless you're on a page with 1000 images embedded all with a different host.
Also, in some situations (like mine) the isp's dns has a 50% chance of not working and saying the domain doesn't exist, making you have to press refresh and hope the domainname gets fetched. Using a different dns host has removed having to press refresh for me, so a considerable speed gain

yeah, so it IS possible to increase the time to get the IP of the server...
but not the actual connection of the server and your computer...
