ok. well im DLing it now. problem is backing up. can i use disk managment to shrink C to around 400 gigs then add onto D?

Yes you can, I did that on my laptop. Works perfect but name the disk something so you can tell the difference.

whats is 400GB is MB? i cant open calculator, cant find a calculator, and im too lazy to think about math

I don't think you have to change drive labels unless the partition you're going to be installing to is not the first partition of the disk. In which case, after installation you'll want to right click My Computer > Manage, Drive management? And assign a letter to the partition you can't see. This is because Vista and later will name the INSTALL partition C:\, not necessarily the FIRST, like under XP.
Also, you'd want to google something more like "400 gigabytes in/to megabytes". You've got to type the units out if you want the answer quickly.

i wasnt thinking.
there is a max you can shrink+ 1 GB=1024MB (about 1000). which works cause didnt need precise. just need to free up space for D

EDIT: i cant add space to D. i can only replace it to the drive i took the space from

1GB=1024MB from memory. You can partition your hdd. either using third party software or windows.
