hey guys
i have a msdn subscription so i can download the RTM of windows 7/server 2008 R2 as soon as it's released ( before public date )
at the moment i'm using server 2008 SP2 over vista cause it's a LOT faster. before switching to 2008 R2 over windows 7 just wanna know if anyone knows whether the visual effects can also be enabled for R2 as well.. anyone installed the beta versions of it ? in server 2008 SP2, aero theme can be enabled just like vista so you can have your machine looking exactly the same but running a lot lot faster
in fact, does anyone know whether R2 is a lot faster than 7 as 2008 was to vista ?

| Is this based loosely off W7, like 2008 was off of Vista? I used to use 2008 and it's a great OS.

| yes it's just like that. vista and server 2008 shared core system code. now so does windows 7 and server 2008 R2

| Is there any difference between Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2? In performance and in functionality?

server 2008 R2 seems faster for the time being. this is expected though since MS generally makes their server equivalents a lot faster than their end user OSs
there is however one large difference.. R2 comes only in x64
