A couple of months ago I installed Ubuntu along side my Vista 32 bit, thinking, "hey last time i tried ubuntu it was pretty cool, despite no .exe's working correctly."

2 hours after the install, I wanted it gone. I couldn't even get back on to Vista, every time I tried, the computer would give me that really, really, annoying blue crash screen.

So of course I looked on youtube for about an hour (side note: why is it so hard to get youtube to work correctly on ubuntu) searching for directions for removing an operating system. i did find one way but it required the vista cd which i didn't have. So instead I did a system recovery and set my computer back to factory defaults.

Vista now works properly, everything is fine, except one thing: The hard drive space I partioned for ubuntu is still gone. When I go under partion editor or whatever it is that allows you to see partions, it shows the 100GB I allotted to ubuntu. While I was searching for ways to remove it, I saw that if you just delete the partion, you can't even get on the computer, because it will delete GRUB, which is what the computer uses to boot while ubuntu is installed.

In short, since I did a system recovery, did my boot loader return to Windows Boot Loader? And if it did, is it safe to delete the partion I allotted to Ubuntu?

It could be safe to delete it, but I would attempt to use that 100GB to the partition of my default OS

You mean like transfer some memory from it to my default partition? Is there a way to do that?

if you restored, you should be using the windows boot loader, otherwise you would see the GRUB loader screen. that partition with Ubuntu, i think it'd still have all the files on it, you simply restored to the first partition. if you want to add the extra 100gb, try Norton PartitionMagic, and deleting then adding to your primary (i'm guessing windows) partition.

Well I was just looking for Norton Partition Magic online and they were all like 60 bucks, so I downloaded a different partition tool, do either of you Know if EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition (the free one) a good one?

If that still doesn't work, you can grab your Vista disc and use the recovery console and fix the master boot record and boot file.

I'm just gonna use EASEUS.
Worst case scanario: Deleting the partition will make me unable to boot anything, so I'll borrow a vista disc from a friend.

Best case: I'll be back in a flash.

Unless you're actually looking to learn, just use Windows. Just sort of sounds like you wanted to use "trendy" Ubuntu for little good reason...

And you can just delete the ext3 partition (and swap). Use a gparted Live boot disk/usb or the gparted program on Ubuntu's Live CD.
