should I get Q6600 Cpu for $200 Cad and use with P5Q Pro motherboard OR get a xeon 3220 with DFI P35 T2RS motherboard for $280 Cad.

so its
Q6600 for $200 i already have motherboard p5q pro

or

xeon 3220 with DFI P35 T2RS motherboard for $280 Cad

then return the p5q pro to store.

Even though the Xeon 3000 series are basically the same as their 775 desktop counter parts, but not all boards will support it since their micro code is different.

You'll need to double check and see if the boards you have will support a Xeon.

Q6600 G0 stepping (SLACR): TDP 71C
X3220 G0 stepping (SLACT): TDP 85C

Keep the mobo and if you want to play safe get the Q6600. Take a risk, go with the Xeon.

The X3220 and Q6600 are both exactly the same chip where as the X3320 is a Q6600 with a rebadged name. They also can stand more heat thus the 85C on their TDP as compared to 71C on the Q6600.

More tolerance to heat=more head room for overclocking.
