Well, can I?

My laptop seems to run out of space in it's Hard drive and I was wondering if I can connect a desktop with a laptop.

And also if it works will i be able to play with the desktop graphics other than the laptop graphics?

Crossover Cat5 cable is better than USB. Of course, you can always just file share over the network as it is.

Yeah,I'm not very good with hardware stuff[not good at all in fact].I don't understand a thing you guys say about coolers. My knowledge is limited to the fact that I've a 2.4 Ghz Core2Duo processor,3GB RAM and have a 512 MB Graphics Card xD.I'm much better with software.

Yeah, I don't know how a crossover Cat5 cable is different from a regular Ethernet cable, but I picked one up for a few dollars to network computers I may work on (bypassing stupid Windows networking stuff). Of course, OP probably can enable file-sharing for both computers and just accept whatever speeds he gets through the router (which is probably acceptable).
There are also category 6 cables from TIA, I think they're 200MHz, which doubles the cat5 cables' 100MHz (correct me if those are off).

Crossover: Both ends have their own wiring order.
Use for connecting two computers directly to each other without the need of additional devices like router, modem, switches, etc...
If both PC are equipped with gigabit lans then with a CAT5e or CAT6, you'll achieve gigabit speeds.

Straight: Both ends of the wiring order are the same.
Use for connecting PCs through a device such as router.
The device may limit your lan to achieve true speed.
