Why would he type "GNOME" if he meant "gnome"?
Ga-gnome in the case of GNOME, I had to learn how to say things when I first got into Linux (ie. GNU).

Not when it comes to the cross-platform desktop environment, GNOME (easily distinguished by its capitalized name).
