When it comes to consumer electronics, International CES is the one stop to be at and to get a glimpse of what's to come for the years ahead.

And much more.

From Microsoft preCES keynote
-Win7 public beta this friday, Steve encourage us to all download and try it out.
-Win7 improves networking called Home Group.
This allows anyone with access in a home network to share files and even stream music to like the XBox 360 with the easy "send to" slide out menu.
Keynote from MS is streaming live right now, so right now it's done half way. Wait till tomorrow to watch the whole thing from beginning to end.

During the Vista public beta, user interested must register in order to get a product key and a download link to both the 32bit and 64bit ISO.
Not sure if Windows 7 will be done the same way.
Anyway it's all free.
As for releasing quickly, I don't think it's that quick.
It takes time for bugs to iron out so the sooner they get it out the more things gets fix before the RTM gets released.

What was the point of vista if they are going to release 7 so fast is what I'm saying.

Vista's served its purpose. Two years isn't too short of a time period for them to put the new OS out (especially since Vista wasn't received well at fist). I mean, it was 95 in 1995 and 98 in 1998. Then came ME and 2000 in 2000. It was only a little over a year for XP to be unleashed (ME was pretty horrid), Vista at the very beginning of 2007.
Just thought I'd say something..

No vista served its purpose the first day then it sucked the rest.
Im going to use windows 7 when its out, and give up old windows xp.
I've used (first to last):
- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows xp, ubuntu, other versions of linux
Going for windows 7.

I <3 Windows 7
It actually works very well with my machine, despite my machine being over 4 years old at this point. CPU load never goes over 5% idle and I only use about 30% of my RAM idle.
Pretty damn good. Works like a charm. Smooth and crystal clear.
Quick Specs:
AMD Anthlon 3500+
1.7GB of RAM.
Running an IGP with only 64MB shared memory [BIOS locked, can't change.]

AND installs faster than Vista OR XP. It's a step (besides all the user-friendly bullshit) in the right direction. Buying a copy as soon as it comes out.
