well, I've installed OSX86 on my computer since my dad has a hard time with windows and I find myself playing a lot less games than I used to anyway.
as far as I know, there's no ati 4850 drivers around for OSX so I'm looking for a way to lock OSX into 1680x1050 (if possible) until I sell my card and buy a supported nvidia 8800
orrrr if anyone here knows where to get 4850 mac drivers, that's even better.

OSX (especially Hackintosh, since there are lots of compatibility issues with it) is not something that I would ever trade in my 4850 for an 8800. Windows really shouldn't be that hard to manage, but if it is for whatever reason, why not try out a nice, open-source Linux distro? Was there something specifically troublesome about Windows?
I'm sorry I can't really help you with your OSX86 problem, since I don't know very much about Macs, but I'd be happy to help you with an alternative to it.

Also, I can onyl figure your dad would need to do some word processing or browsing...
I can't imagine what he'd have trouble with on Windows.

he won't admit he has trouble but I just know from the amount of times he asks how to do shit I've showed him many times before.
not to mention if something says "spyware scan here" he's the type to click it.
choosing mac over linux was just because I like the OS myself now I've used it a fair bit and I don't plan to be playing games anymore.

it depends on your hardware etc. which "distro" you should install, I used Kalyway 10.5.2

I'm not giving away the 4850, It's on ebay atm with 9 watchers (£100 buy it now price)
the 8800 I'm buying is only £80something
skins are shit, why dress windows up to look like something it's not when I can just use the real thing? (lol @ the millions of xp users with vista skins) I'm fed up of windows, only version I'm kinda happy with using is xp and I still have an xp partition for the off-chance I might want to play a game that won't run in darWINE.
vista's novelty wore off after a few months for me and the win7 beta was a steaming turd wrapped up in a million ribbons IMO.

What was wrong with the Windows 7 Beta? It's not meant to be an all-on operating system yet, but it still outperformed Vista, which is something Longhorn didn't come close to doing in beta.

When I ran OS X Leopard in VMWare (which ran ridiculously slow), I had to use a "hack" method to get a custom resolution.
1. Navigate to Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration, and open "com.apple.Boot.plist" in TextEdit
2. Add:
| Code: | <key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>widthxheightx32</string> |
after
3. Save the file under the same name, keeping the .plist extension
3a. You might have to save it on the Desktop unless you want to use a sudo command
3b. Drag the .plist file into the SystemConfiguration directory, and authenticate
4. Reboot
