Hey all. Been in the hacking/programming world all of my adult life (most of my hacking experience was with MS over time). I was fooling around with lastchaos (usa) recently and was just annoyed at the lack of decent hacks available for this game. Theres a decent amount of players, numerous worlds and no hack prevention... well anyway, I don't really want to pour through lines of asm today.. or tomorrow, that gets really old.
so I was thinking, how about changing the data files. figured I'd start with trying to make monsters weaker or stupider. looking though them it seems that the .smc file is a general class wrapper for filenames of the different textures, data files, and action headers that each of the individual monsters, .bm seems to be an image file, and .ba and .bae and .bs have the real meat of the info... unfortunately, I'm way off my game currently and can't seem to figure out their 'mesh' or encryption, whichever it is.... in any case, if anyone seems to know off the top of their heads how to decrypt the datafiles, please share.. or if anyone is interested in looking into it with me, email me at [email protected] (please use a suitable title)

If it has no protection, why not use a packet-editor or CE (yes like you said it can get boring but still) instead of decrypting the individual files (you'll end up having to re-encrypt them anyway which is a pain for newbies like me).
Also, if you do end up decrypting the files, the results would only be client-sided so what you can do would be limited, whereas using a packet editor would be server-sided and the possibilties would be endless.

packet editing seems to come up with the same issues for me...
I'm able to read and write to the packets, but without decryption its basically useless to me.
the reason I'd chose to edit the individual files is because info like monster damage, attack rate and running speed are ALL contained in those files NOT server sided checks.
also to be noted: a friend who's had more time to just diddle with the cryptography of the packets has told me, in no uncertain terms, that each packet out seems to be an equation or list of arguments to an equation, and the resultant packets are usually answers to those equations.. but wouldn't devulge how he decrypted the packets, or how he came to any of those conclusions.
tho I'd be lieing if I said I'd ever done ANYTHING with packet editing before.. (creating completely new packets, yeah.. manually injecting them, sure.. but I've never made a program that would do it for me every time.)
on a strange side note, the person called 'kyodai' on many of my other forums ( a nice german man, with extended knowledge of computer science) seems to be alltogether out of the community.. I've spent a few days attempting to track him down, but with no luck.. if anyone has current contact info for him, I'd be incredibly indebted.
