Try tamper data and packets.
Can really know if you can cheat till you attempt it.

You can, using wpe or other packet sniffers.
You can send packets on anything your connected to online, just depends on if your successful at it, and if it has encryption.

I see that the game might be a Text-Based/MUD game, so it might be very hard to hack if it has great security and stores its memory server-sided.

My best bet is to use SQL Injection, Google has a lot of TuTs on how to use it, search it and try on a noob game first.
