It seems that way for most "popular" girls in middle school around here.

Talking about consequences: it might just be me, but I can put life consequences and futures into a scale, for example, the right side being very social (top of the popularity list, "everyone's" talking about), and the left side being completely non-social (stays by themselves, reading books, etc). They're crude examples, but you get the point.

I'll use myself as an example. I would consider myself about halfway between the mid point and the right side. I'm completely non-social at times, staying to myself. But at other times, I can fit in perfectly with the people on the other end of the scale. It's mostly a decision I make at that point and time. I could succumb to either side at my own will, being "cool" and fitting in with the rest, or leading a more "unique" life, possibly a scientific career.

However, with that, I begin thinking of my future, and it seems like some choices "force" you to go to either end, while other choices provide a bit of space. I can't think of good job examples ATM, except for the non-socials: sitting in a basement, inventing the next thing that will revolutionize the world. That's a bit extreme though, and I haven't even reached my point. The following is going to be biased, a bit towards the right side maybe. Anyways, in order to "revolutionize the world", you need to have a good picture of the world and all its problems. Thus, socialization, finding out needs and what not. Take the personal computer for example, it helped organize and soon became a part of everyone's lives (at least eventually it did).

You might also need the help of others, and using the personal computer as the example again, the silicon chip was a major step towards the PC. So, you might need to socialize and share ideas, although I do realize that this was somewhat coincidental (I know, crappy wording).

I agree with you on that, but here's the problem:
They can't calm down and participate!
I'm halfway in the left side and the midpoint for me.
So this is my problem, even my parents are forcing me to socialize, so why not give it a try? Even if I hate the kids..., even if i had a bad rep as a bully...
The real problem is changing now, it would be extremely wierd for me to feel hyped up, as I'm always a person who almost never smiles, and also "hits" people.

Similar situation with myself. That's why most of my friends are 2-3 years older.

The kids in my class just act retarded, and, although it's unrelated, they all have horrible music tastes. They listen to this sort of techno/pop, it's disgusting.

I say just learn to be tolerant with these fools as I have, and quietly laugh at them.
