I would think it wouldn't.
Of course if there was something wrong with the laptop in the first place, it could be bad. But in that case you would find out eventually no matter how much you used it at a time.

Whats the brand?
I have a HP and it gets pretty warm. However, the company said it would be warm and that it's normal. Don't worry about it. Get a fan and You're good to go :]

Just do this:
Downlaod a CPU temperature reader
I tihnk SPeedFan is one.
Then use your laptop and watch it. Use it for an hour and see how high it gets.
If it stays low, then its safe to use overnight. Just use low power settings if possible.

Realtemp's tjmax of 95 is better for c2d/c2q/c2e cores, although it lacks fan control. Use that for temps and something different for fans, if you so desire.
Laptops often run hot, I would tend not to think that something is wrong.

You should find a better way to cool your laptop other than what already cools it. Preferably, a fan pointed to it and have it slightly elavated and not the base entirely on a flat surface.
