I ask this same question 3 days ago and this was what I got.

DDR3 is newer than DDR2. DDR2 is still the most commonly used. And for the Price/Performance ratio DDR2 is better than DDR3.

I would say get DDR2.

If you want the cutting edge stuff, then DDR3 is what you need. Although it still comes at a premium (ie. damned expensive) and you need to make sure you have a decent motherboard and processor to go along with it happily. For general gaming though DDR2 is more than enough. Most people would say get some high-end DDR2 RAM with low timings and go the overclocking route to squeeze the most out of it.

You don't gain almost anything with ddr3.
The only thing you gain is that it needs less voltage.

Not really just a few points like 10-50 more.
You can overclock an ddr2 to the speed of an ddr3.

DDR3 is faster than DDR2 (if we say everything is at standard speeds and timings)... its not just a lower voltage requirement. That would hardly warrant any mention at all let alone them release a new standard.

That's what I said.. 10-50 is higher... why bother correcting a correct post?

But ddr3 can be overclocked as well.. which leads us to: DDR3 is faster than DDR2

DDR3 will be big deal (quite better performance) together with the upcoming Intel Core i7, which will be 3-channel.

DDR3 has higher latency (slower) but more bandwidth (faster), it is better but not really practical yet.

DDR3 is slower if anything, and it's also far more expensive. The only benefit to DDR3 is if you intend to do heavy overclocking.
