From what I've heard, a person encounters many events in their lives and most of those events are store in the brain. The person may not remember or even recall them while their alive, but during their death and as their brain begins to shutdown all of those events will flash before them.

This is not the same as people with photographic memory.

I'm Catholic, but I think we go to a different dimension. It's the only theory that seems reasonable.
