Anyone here ever taken the CompTIA A+ certification examination? I'm suppose to take it this spring and I am wondering if it is easy or not and what I need to/should study.

You need to get yourself the latest A+ book and in it, you'll learn everything you need to know in order to take the exam.
Comptia A+ focuses on hardware and software.
For hardware-Able to identify that piece of hardware or component.
-Able to know it's physical electrical interfaces
e.g. A ISA slot has either a 8bit or 16bit interface
-Able to know what address it uses. (IRQ resources)
e.g. In the past when a ISA soundcard does not work, disabling or reserving IRQ5, makes the sound card work.
-Able to troubleshoot certain issues that common for most people
e.g. My printer does not print, What makes a printer work (the mechanical process of printing)?
For software: Dos commands, solving hardware conflicts (IRQ errors), and so on.
Tip: The OS we use today handles the IRQ automatically, but in Win98 on the other hand, a resource conflict means you need to do it manually.
Study and memorize the IRQ addresses!

How much do the A+ review test booklet cost nowadays?

Depends on the edition, I've got my book (hard cover with pictures) around $70 bucks and some cost up to $100.

Do you have the exact title of the book?
Also, was the exam easy?

It's A+ by Mike Meyers.
As for the exam it depends, on how well you study.
Some say hardware section is difficult while software is easy and others vice versa.
Just study and give it your best, but seriously if you want to learn about fixing or building PCs, a book may give you knowlege, but you can never learn a the true experience from it.
Knowledge and experience are 2 different things.

Well, I'm only taking the certification exam for working purposes.
I already know how to build a computer, but I don't know how they actually function.

This. I see people people here posting about shit I don't have a clue about. I don't know anything other than phyisical clock speeds and simple architecture. Probably skimming the surface of the water.
Tim, I'll be sending you a PM.
