Need help with getting rid of white spaces on photos and just keeping the main picture. (PS CS3)

For example, if I did it to a face, all I would see is the face, no white spaces.

ok, look at my avatar.

If i just wanted to have house's face and shoulder show up on your screen and get rid of my name and the white spaces. what would I do?

use the magic wand and click on the white part, press delete and you're done, or use the lasso...
