It may possibly be better in core wise, but in certain things ( price/performance ratio, how they handle certain things ) it could be less powerful.

AMDs Stock Fans are powerful as fuck. If he knows how, he can overclock that proc easily.

Maybe they are? I was just pointing out that there may be better aspects then just the number of cores. Like the Core2Quad may not be better than the Tri-Core... Though it most likely is, AMD could have some better things.

Hoshit. Like the nm technology and such.

Urgh. Thats it? No reasons as to how a proc with 2 cores is going to beat one with 3?

In all honesty I'd go for the Core 2 Duo...

While the Phenom does had 3 cores, they are at a lower frequency, and Intel's CPUs have faster clock cycles (I think that was the term) than AMD processors.

So you could compare a dual core AMD proc at 2.5GHz to a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo.

I think Madman has the idea, but I doubt the difference is that much. Probably ~400MHz at best.

I would say it would depend on the expected lifespan of the computer, and what type of programs you'll be running. If your computer lifespan is about 1 or 2 years without an upgrade, and you don't run really intensive applications that support multi-threading, then I would go with the Intel. If you're going to do lots of multi-tasking and running lots of multi-threaded applications, then get the Phenom.

Phenoms have a pretty bad reputation at overclocking, at least compared to the Intel Core 2 processors. You can't get much on the HT Link, and unless you have an unlocked Black Edition processor, you'll be stuck with a not-so-great multiplier.

Also, Intel E7200 > Intel E4700.

Overall: For the most part, I would go for the Intel processor, and the E7200 is superior to the E4700.

Superweapons, you reccomend I build a budget build with an Intel Chipset? I currently have one made at 360$ doing AMD. Neutral

Oh sorry i chose intel cuz its the real deal it is powerful but the downside is no 64bit compatibility

It has 64 bit compatability, mate. All procs now do.
