What is the difference between dx9 and dx10? I ran crysis with dx9 on high settings and got almost no lag and great graphics. Then i took out the dx9 ( making it dx10 Razz ) and it became laggy and the graphics difference were barely noticeable...

So what are the differences besides more lag?

Well probably smoother/sharper? It would be nice if you could provide a screenshot of dx9 & dx10

If your computer was actually able to handle DX10 properly, you wouldn't have had the lag. It's common sense; something's heavier requires better hardware.

Try the same experiment on a DX10 suitable build, and you will see big differences. Here's a thread and a wiki link to back up my info just in case you wrongfully attempt to rant me again.

It also depends on your OS. Vista optimizes the verison 10 pretty well.

DX10 is a pretty huge cleanup of the older versions. It implements bunches of new features and changes.

One of the major flaws of DX9 is the completely absurd overhead to draw calls and state changes. In DX9, draw calls were becoming far more important than actual triangles were on modern hardware.

This is pretty much why geometry instancing came about in DX. Thankfully OpenGL didn't have this problem. There's still some performance problems in OpenGL because of so much legacy shit hanging around, but 3.0 is SUPPOSED to take care of it.

DX10 much reduced the retarded overhead behind draw calls (though badly managed state changes will still probably ruin your day regardless of API). There's many other changes to things, such as texture arrays, all sorts of other framebuffer formats, improvements and enhancements that make stuff like deferred shading an even more viable solution, etc.

There's tons of changes to list, and while performance gains over DX9 are very real and possible, naive ports that devs seem to be doing from now just for the sake of having a DX10 path will NOT bring about the supposed performance gains that were promised. Minimal changing of code just to get your DX9 shit running in DX10 will yield horrible performance issues.

By the time 10 becomes more mainstream, we will undoubtedly start seeing real performance gains.

You can tell the trees look much more gritty in the first one. Also in the first one, the sky is a little less... nice looking. Also, you can see a a small difference in the water, you can see the bottom of the water :3

DX10 is much better.
You installed it wrong or somthing.

1, DX deals informations easyer from and to the graficcard
2, Better coding (less information to send)
3, Looks nicer+you can use veryhigh settings at crysis (this can be bugged with 9dx but it doesn't work 100%)
