This is more like a tutorial but it has nothing to do with CE.

First of all you want to get yourself the latest version of VBA which is here http://emulator-zone.com/doc.php/gba/vboyadvance.html
Scroll down until you see Visual Boy Advance 1.8.0 Beta3 then click it, and just let it download. Next you want to get a Pokemon rom, out of the versions, pokemon ruby,sapphire, emerald, firered, or leafgreen.
It's good to have 100% english rom because when you try hacking a rom from another language or country most of the stuff will come up in another language (You will know what I mean later on when you have your hacking supplies)

To get the roms (I tried them and i'm not sure if they were 100% english or if they worked) goto http://www.1rom.net/roms/?s=8
Then download which pokemon rom you want.

NEXT! goto this site to get your hacking supplies http://wah.studiopokemon.com/ Just to tell you, it's in spanish so it will be hard for the ones who don't know spanish. To fix that all you have to do is click the little icon of an Articuno.
Click that, and it will take time for the site to kick in and then transfer to english. If it doesn't then hold CTRL then click. Hold it for abit till it works. After when its in english go look at the nav and look until you have found Tools, click Tools in the nav then it should goto the download page for the hacking supplies.

Next you will see a download that says, Elitemap v3.7a, and another that says Advancemap v1.82. Download them both! Advancemap is the program that hacks into the rom to change the way you look at it. And elite has alot of packed goodies inside to change alot of stuff within the rom. ALSO! I suggest not changing any events that happen while your playing the original versions of the game! Advance map only allows you to create,edit, or add stuff to houses, grass areas, and the names of towns. It also lets you add different pokemon to the grass!
NOTE:ELITEMAP HAS A VIRUS!!!!! My computer found a virus in it. But you get get rid of it easily. So don't be alarmed if your computer detects any viruses. That should be all.


Theres one more thing you would probably want, in the tools its called Advance Text 3.1.1 You want that if your going to change what people say in the game!
All these programs are very hard to work with, if you know about hacking and all, then these will be no problem for you. Now the more newbier ones can learn how to. Don't reply to this and just yell at me on how to do this. This was only to help you with getting the stuff you need.

yeah, thats an awesome tut but you shouldn't use visual boy because when you open the ROM the VBA says " the battery has run dry" and that clock based events will not occur. if you download the no$gba emulator, it workd fine.

Create an ASCII text file (using Notepad or another text editor) called vba-over.ini (placed in the same directoy as VisualBoy Advance)
have your roms in a folder, then make a new text, or notepad. Name the notepad vba-over.ini then copy this

Pokemon - Ruby Version

and paste into it, then save. After that start up your VBA then goto options>Emulator>Real time clock, that should put a check on Real time clock and should fixe the message that appears

Hey, I tried hacking roms a whil back, I found some tools that I don't think you mentioned...
Edit-I uploaded them using the forums uploading thingy but I can't see em?

why bother hacking? i just put in gameshark codes on the emulator and its the same thing but way easier..........i caught all the legendary in emerald ( lugia, ho-ho, deoxys, jirachi, kyorgre, groudon, rayquaza, and the regis....

With this you can change the maps, the pokemon you see at the start, the pokemon prof oak puts out when u start a new game, where you catch pokemon, the looks of yourself and anyone else in the game and everything else, oh and its permanent

Yep, I suggest this tutorial for people who don't know how or what program to get, and also good for the people who love pokemon and wish someday that they would release their own version of a pokemon game. OH YEAH GUYS! It's best to use Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Ruby, because the creator of the program made it for just those games, also firered and leafgreen. AND!!!! heres the link to those games... http://members.tripod.com/pokemon_rs_english/ Only ruby and Sappire, sorry if you were looking for firered or leafgreen. The Ruby one is in 100% English, so with all those programs just english will come up! SO ENJOY!
NOTE: THE PROGRAMS THAT I TOLD YOU GUYS ABOUT MAY CORRUPT, WRECK, OR MESS UP YOUR GBA GAME, PLEASE SAVE ON YOUR DESKTOP WHEN DOWNLOADING THE GAME SO YOU WILL HAVE THE GAME FOR EVER!
