i am wondering if it's possible to install vista on a newly built PC, the disc has been used before on my sisters laptop (it came with it)

is it "allowed" by MS and it would work right?

supposedly according to microsoft you're not allowed to distribute your copy of windows xp. but it's just like DL music. nobody cares. go ahead and install it on all of your computers. trust me they don't care.

It'll work for a while. I think you get a trial (IIRC, 3 days), then you have to enter the key. Which is already used on another computer. If you enter the same key, it's likely that Microsoft will detect it (Windows Genuine Advantage maybe), and you'll be forced to use Vista in Safe Mode (networking mode off), enter a valid key, or remove Vista.

Yes ms works I have vista and ms works for me.

Windows that came with a pre-installed desktop or notebook are considered as OEM. OEM softwares are tied to the machine, thus you cannot install the same Vista on to another computer. The license cannot be transfered to a new computer therefore you'll have to buy another copy of Windows.

Retail version are tied to the user, which allows you to transfer the license to as many machines as you wish, but you may only use it a single computer. If you're using it on more than one computer, then you will have to get additional license.

This is why OEM are cheapter than retail
Vista Ultimate OEM full version: $200
Vista Ultimate retail full version: $400

ah well if the disc doesnt work i'll just download it.
theres no chance on earth i'm paying £100 for an OS

If it came with the computer, you're not supposed to put it on another.

But, it should work if you do it anyways.

I think you got the OS that came with her computer. That's different then an actual copy of windows as it came specifically for her computer. If you have the same company it might work

It won't work then because the CD is more then Vista stuff. It's all made for toshiba. I think you going to have to find a cracked version.
