and i just got cpu-z and my Dell's clocks at 1197 mhz (core speed) and my old computers clocking at 1434 mhz? anyone know whats going on? even tho it clocks lower it seems like the dells still faster

edit* i was looking at my clock speed and like every 10 seconds my 1197 jumps to 2194 mhz and then drops back down really fast... anyone know wats wrong?

1. Clockspeed means nothing amongst different generations. The e4500 will absolutely destroy the Athlon.

2. The reason the speed changes every few seconds is because of SpeedStep, it clocks down your processor when it's not doing much to reduce power consumption and heat.

If these are OEM machines, you won't be able to overclock them safely. The only way you can overclock is with an aftermarket board you installed yourself.

if you don't know what your doing, you shouldn't take the risk of over clocking.

I think fullyawesome means if you don't understand the procedure, you shouldn't do it in the first place. Overclocking is for serious people and it's serious business. One fuck up, and your computer will literally explode under the heat. Overclocking is done by tweaking of the BIOS. I think you should just trash the athlon and the dell and just get one new computer.

why would i trash the dell? i got like like 5 months ago it was pretty cheap too 600 with a 22 in wide screen
came with a e4500core2duo and 2 gigs of ram
well im pretty sure i could of got a better comp now but oh well
and i cant overclock on my dell cuz its bios is locked
and yeah the cpu speeds lower cuz of the energy saver thingy

you don't, since you're clueless.

if you can't understand how it works, don't bother.
