Why do duo processors have much higher GHz than quad-cores?
Sorry for all the questions, I've just been curious about ALOT of computer things. |

because 1 is using 2 cores and one is using 4 but quad cores are better well will be after more games support 4 cores _________________

| All games work on quad cores, but only some will use up all 4 cores (most older games aren't programmed to use 4 cores, and will only use 1 or 2). |

Just by raising the clock multiplier, Intel and AMD charge more for their processors. That's what they do to compensate for the remaining 2 cores.
All games should properly run on a quad core, but non of them utilize all four cores (at least not Crysis). So in a sense, you are future-proofing yourself by getting a quad core. _________________

So the point is that you can play a game that takes 2 cores and do something else at the same time without lagging too much or at all. _________________

| Any modern game is likely very multithreaded. |

| Thing is - when the games which supports quad core, the prices will be much much lower. It's unnecessary to buy a quad core atm imo, the only quad core I would buy is q9300. |

Ok...
Any Source engine game built on the new engine seems to support as many cores as you throw at it.
Any Unreal Engine 3 game...
Any game built off Capcoms new engine... (Lost Planet, Devil May Cry 4...)
Anything CryEngine2
Far Cry 2
Supreme Commander
Age of Conan
World of Warcraft
Alan Wake
ID tech 4 games (IE Quake 4)
ID tech 5 games
Do I need to continue?
