|

Okay well, i have just come across 4 Optiplex GX5...
That is the what it looks like... times 4. It has a single core on each one, 256mb RAM and not much else...
It is VERY quiet and small...
So i was thinking i could just leave them on forever... and put a couple servers on them or rent them out or something xD...
Question:
* Good idea?
* Bad idea?
* What should i do with them if i shouldn't turn them into servers
* I will probably run them together through a hub... I need suggestions on CAT5 hubs too thanks

If you ran them from you're house and rented out the server space, it will fill your bandwidth.
also, think of the penguins, leaving 4 computers on 24/7 This does not come without costs.

Well my bandwidth is
616.59 kilobytes per second
someone please correct my math...
but is that not 12,371gb/month... and seeing as most sites do not use more than 300gb ( aviar hosts 13 people on his hosting and hasing reached 10gb i think...) I think i can run 4 servers...

I used this:
http://www.bandwidthplace.com/
Also, you know how servers say you have 500gb? well a gb is not a measure of bandwidth... You really have 500gb/month... Which is a correct measure!

616.59 is your download speed
which most likely means your upload speed is 70-100KB/sec

It's just going to take one person on a decent connection to completely saturate your line
just pay for hosting if you want it. nearly free speech is pretty amazing, don't pay for what you don't use.
