Hello everyone, today I decided to do a little looking around on building my own computer. The main thing my computer would be for is video editing. Some gaming here and there, but I figure, if you have a good video editing computer, it can also play games quite well.
Now I have done some research, but I do not know where to start, and how to tell if something is compatible with something ells.
So any help to kinda of guide me in the right direction would help.
Thank You![/i]

Okay, first let me ask you what your budget is.

From there we can move on for me telling you how good your computer is.

Hmmmm, I would say maybe a max of $600-$700 US.
And this would be just the PC itself.
I am fine with monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Hmm.. Do you care if the case does not look "high tech 1337ness"? That budget is a little low, but it is very workable...

Do you think you will need a Dual-Core or a Quad-Core for your video editing (very intensive video edting will require a Quad-core)

I like the idea of a 1337 case, lol.
My video editing is not "intense".
Here is what i have now, it works ok, but if I am doing a large project (20-30min) it lags like hell and rendering takes forever.
And I know it sucks...

Btw, my computer is the oldest in my house, and it runs the best
WIN!

EDIT:
Oh, I would also like a graphic card with the 2 monitor outputs thingy, so you can have 2 monitors.

Okay youll want a dual-core...

and im not 100 percent sure if a 1337 case is in your budget.

Now, how big do you think your hard drive should be... Some video editors i know take up 1 terabyte... some a few hundred gigabytes.

The best: the bigger, the better. But more expensive though. Probarbly for him just a few hundred GB.

I have a 230GB external HD that has all my video stuff on it. BUT I all my files are not compressed, once I do that, I'm sure it will free up a lot, all my raw videos are .AVI, and my finished videos are WMV or MPG, in future videos, my raw files will be the same quality as my finished product. Because having high quality raw files and a crappy final product dose not make sense.

ANYWAY
I have a 65GB main HD, but I'm only using 45GB.

So yeah, I would think a 300ish GB HD would be just fine.
Then I could use my external for backup.

Well I am confused on finding the right motherboard/right RAM.
I would like a motherboard with 4 PCI slots, able to have 2 or 4 GB or RAM.
I am just confused on what works with what.
